information on how the Charleston Firefighter Support Team is using this 1962
Ford Chief’s car in their counseling program. This car began its service in the Marion
Volunteer Fire Department. A
special thanks to Gerald Mishoe of the CFST for contacting us and providing
these photos and information on their program.
This group photo
taken in 1977 shows the Chief’s car in the background, as well as the
other apparatus used by the department at that time. Click on thumbnail to enlarge the photo.
Important safety
message from the Marion Fire Department
With Spring and
Summer upon us, we are turning our attention to cleaning up all that “Old
Man Winter” has left us with.
Even though the 4 p.m. burn law is no longer in effect, care should be
exercised with any open fire, especially when close to other homes or wooded
areas. Never try to burn on windy
days or after several days of warm weather. The warm weather not only dries out the
brush pile you are planning to burn, but surrounding vegetation as well. Be safe and let’s all have a great
fire-free summer!

Several members of the Marion
Volunteer Fire Department recently underwent extensive training in conjunction
with the Chilhowie Fire Department
to create a joint Special Operations Team. This team has training in specific
situations such as confined space
rescue, ropes rescue, vehicle extrication, and swift water rescue.
